2010-11 Environmental Week

Environmental awareness and action are an important part of our curriculum throughout the year. Also, we think that the environmental issues that our students will face are so important that, once per year in February, we suspend our usual classes and focus on these issues. Students make field trips, perform experiments, and welcome guest speakers. At the end of the week, they present their findings to all the students and parents. This page has pictures from several of the trips and from the presentations.

3rd and 4th Grade visited the medicinal gardens of Maya Traditions. They learned and presented about a variety of plants, including what illnesses they are used for and how they are taken.

5th and 6th Grade visited a factory in Sololá that makes a variety of products from soybeans, and they studied the public health and environmental issues around soybean use.

Kindergarten through 6th Grade visited the national zoo in Guatemala City to study endangered animals and animal habitats.

At the end of the week, students in each grade presented what they learned.
