Back to School on Monday, September 8, 2014!
The 2014-2015 school year begins for student on September 8, however the staff has been working together since early August to prepare and plan for their arrival.
As LIFE enters its 26th year, we have made a large investment in renewing and improving the physical space for students. Completed projects include construction of a new bathroom, renovation of another bathroom, installation of a new window on the Parvulos building, construction of rain gutters, and the painting of all the school buildings - both inside and out. In addition, student furniture has been sanded and repainted for the early childhood and lower school buildings, and new furniture has been ordered for students in the upper school.
In LIFE's second quarter century as an educational institution, we will celebrate and treasure the traditions and successes of our past as well as continue to learn and grow stronger each year. We have 98 students enrolled this year from pre-school to 8th grade. Please take a look at our faculty and staff page to see the returning and new faces in our community. We look forward to a peaceful and productive school year.
LIFE School Celebrates Peace Day By Creating 1000 Cranes
Each year we learn about the values that were important to our namesake, Robert Muller, and that we believe are important in order to form caring and responsible world citizens. This year we celebrated the value Robert Muller dedicated his entire life to, Peace, by creating 1000 origami cranes for our Peace Day celebration. Students, parents, teachers, and staff members all helped create the cranes is less than two weeks. We were inspired by Sadako Sasaki, who developed leukemia due to the radiation from the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima. She attempted to make 1000 origami cranes due to the Japanese legend that doing so would cure her. Sadly, she died before she completed them, but her friends and family completed the 1000 cranes and there is now a statue of Sadako in the Hiroshima Peace Park. Our fourth grade read the book, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, while we were working on the project. We’ve committed to being peacemakers at LIFE School and we celebrate with peacemaker awards every week at our Friday assembly.
On Saturday, December 7, the LIFE School community will hold it’s first ever WALK FOR LIFE. This fundraiser and educational event will take place at the beautiful Reserva Atitlán. Students, parents, staff, and community members will walk to celebrate LIFE School’s 25 years and to raise funds for our scholarship program. We will also be talking about personal and community health leading up to the vent, learning about ways we can keep ourselves and our community healthy. At the same time, we’ll be appreciating and exploring the natural environment here on Lake Atitlán. We’d love you to consider sponsoring a particular student or faculty member for the walk or if you’d like to make a general donation to the scholarship fund, please visit our WALK FOR LIFE page.
